Local DJs renew quest to find ‘best teachers on the planet’

ST. GEORGE – Lukas Cox and Larae Nelson, hosts of local radio station, Planet 105.1 FM, say they are reigniting their ongoing mission to find an exquisite and exciting life in the frontiers of education by finding the “best teachers on the planet ” starting next month.

Show hosts Lukas and Larae in the Morning are launching their annual event to find local teachers in Southern Utah schools who represent the true meaning of the Supreme Beings by soliciting the public’s help. The public can help by submitting recommendations.

They set out to recognize the teachers who go boldly where many fear to tread, the minds of our young people. They say the goal is to find teachers who find ways to enlighten, instruct and lead their students with expressions of creativity, ingenuity, love and patience.

Nelson, who developed the idea for the award program in 2006, explained that it was developed to recognize the unsung heroes of teachers who go above and beyond to ensure student success.

“So it was my husband, Chris, and I doing the morning show, and both of his parents and my mom are teachers,” Nelson said. “This is honestly about honoring our teachers. We want teachers to be recognized and recognized and to get a little something extra.

The first winner will be announced Wednesday, October 5 at 8:45 a.m. on the morning show. Larae and Lukas will read the application submission, including everything that is said about the teacher.

“After reading the winner on the air, Lukas and I will later today go to the winning teacher’s class, which will be a surprise for the teacher, and we will award the teacher all these prizes! We do it in front of their class, typically…then we give them a copy of the letter. Whoever nominated them, whatever we said about them, we give them a copy of that letter to keep.” , Nelson said.

The award will be given to a new teacher every Wednesday (excluding holiday weeks) for the remainder of the school year until the first week of May. The weekly “World’s Best Teacher” receives a t-shirt proclaiming his new title, along with awards from Boulevard Home Furnishings, Advanced Mobile IV, Eureka Casino and Resort, Bear Paw Cafe, Quick Quack Car Wash and Findlay Kia .

“So many teachers will win many awards,” Cox said.

Cox pointed out that last year about 390 teachers were nominated, and less than 30 teachers won the award. According to the schedule, this school year there will be 27 teachers who will win the prize.

At the end of the year, Findlay Kia will throw a big party for all the weekly winners. Four of the “world’s best teachers” will win the grand prize: $500 for each teacher and $500 for each school the teacher works in. A total of $4,000 will be donated by Findlay Kia.

Nelson, there are nomination letters submitted by all the students in the class. The winning teacher receives a copy of all entries received and can see and read anything written about them.

There are no requirements as to who can nominate a teacher for the award, although the winner cannot be a relative of an employee of Canyon Media or its sponsors.

“You know someone who is an extraordinary teacher; we want you to tell us about it,” Nelson said.

On their way to an uncertain destination, the team of Lukas and Larae is on a mission to go to the vastness of southern Utah and find the sole purpose of their goal and find the masters, the supreme beings who have the strong force with them, the instructors of our young “padawans”, the Best Teachers on the Planet.
